Requirements and medical certificate

To obtain the title of Yacht Captain you must:

• Be over 18 years old.

• To possess the title Yacht Master (PY) in force.

• Pass the official theory exam, consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions.

• Perform the 48 hours of offshore navigation training.

• Present a nautical medical certificate in accordance with Royal Decree 875/2014, valid for 90 days.

  If you have recently renewed your driving license, it may be valid as a replacement (according to current instructions).

How the process works

3. Perform the theoretical training following the selected schedule.

4. Schedule your mandatory 48h internships: continuous crossing with real navigation day and night.

5. We prepare you for the official exam with simulations, exercises and tutorials.

6. Once you have passed the exam and completed the practical training, submit the medical certificate and required documentation.

7. We manage the processing of the title, and you will receive your official Yacht Captain accreditation.

Important information

• Maximum recreational allowance: unlimited mileage navigation and command of vessels up to 24 meters in length.

• Professional qualification: The CY allows subsequent access to professional certifications (after STCW training).

• Validity: The title expires after 10 years; to renew it you only need to renew the medical certificate.

• Training modalities: You can choose between in-person, online, or hybrid options to suit your availability.

• Sailing practice (optional): If you haven't completed them in previous titles, you can do so to qualify for sailing as well.
